Slow stitching is done by hand. It focuses on process rather than outcome. It isn’t about perfect stitching, or perfect appliqué, or even perfect fabric coordination. It can be done very simply, with only scraps of fabric and all the same stitch, or embellished with fancy stitching and additions. In this class you will not only learn the basic stitches for slow stitching, but also other stitches to enhance your project. Linda will work with you to design some small pieces to begin your slow stitching journey.
Supply List
● A piece of “sturdy” fabric, any lighter color will do. This piece is your base on which you will build your slow stitching project. Minimum size 5”x4”, a good maximum would be 6” square for this project.
● Scrap fabrics - any sizes and any colors. This stash will be what you pull from to create the many layers of your project.Make sure some pieces are at least 4” or 5” long
● Small pins
● Thread - some regular sewing thread (maybe ecru?), you will also need thread that is the size of #8 Perle cotton - MLF carries Sue Spargo Eleganza that works well for this. You will definitely want white/ecru and may want a few other lighter colors as well. You can also use embroidery floss - MLF also carries a nice variety of floss as well.
● Needles - Chenille 22 is good, you may also want a regular embroidery needle
● Optional: laces, trims, buttons, rick rack
● Scissors - one pair that will cut your fabric to desired sizes (or you could use a rotary cutter for this) and a small pair for snipping your threads.
● Sewline Air Erasable pen - great for drawing lines on your fabric that will air erase within the hour
